Angels are listening to our words. And not just when we pray or are in church, but all the time. This is not one of those new age blogs that glorify angels beyond their place in God’s spiritual pecking order. Rather, the importance of our words and their relationship to angels working in our lives. Angels are sent to do God’s will. And part of His Will is that we glorify Him. And there are many ways we can glorify God. And it’s not just preaching the Gospel from the pulpit either. We glorify Him by living a resurrected life. That would include, but not limited to, being healthy, wealthy, and wise. (That’s a whole other blog. For more on that you can read my blog “The Prosperity Gospel: Bible fact or fiction”) Angels are sent here to assist us in whatever God calls us to do. Whether it’s full-time ministry or in the secular world.
People think that the only time we serve God is when we’re doing something directly related to church or ministry. Like full-time ministry or volunteer work, ministry of helps such as usher, nursery, parking lot, etc. While those are serving God, we serve God (or not) every day in our secular jobs. The Bible says, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” (1 Cor 10:31 NIV) The Contemporary English version says, ”When you eat or drink or do anything else, always do it to honor God.” The Passion translation puts it this way, “Whether you eat or drink, live your life in a way that glorifies and honors God.” So whether you’re a lawyer, a doctor, a plumber, a policeman, or a teacher, you are to serve God in your everyday life. That admonition is not just for preachers.
HEIRS OF SALVATION
It’s in our everyday life, in addition to what we say in church, that the angels are listening to our words. Hebrews 1:14 says, “Are not all angels sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?” Listen to the amplified classic Bible, “Are not the angels all ministering spirits (servants) sent out in the service [of God for the assistance] of those who are to inherit salvation?” So you see they’re actually supposed to be helping us accomplish God’s destiny for our lives. As long as we’re saved, we’re heirs of salvation. So they are servants sent out in service of God to assist us! The reason I say they are listening to us is found in Psalms 103. The 20th verse says, ”Bless the Lord, ye His angels, that excel in strength, that do His commandments, hearkening unto the voice of His Word.” (Emphasis mine) Notice, it didn’t say they hearken to the voice of God. They hearken to the voice of His Word. So when we give voice to His Word, they act on it.
IN CONSISTENCY LIES THE POWER
Mind you, for the angels to act on your words, your words have to be in line with God’s Will. And, of course, your motives have to be right. You can’t be talking all spiritual on Sunday, then on Monday telling dirty jokes and cursing. Then when a challenge hits you, start confessing scriptures you half remember your pastor say and expect the angels to act on them. In consistency lies the power. I heard a great coach say, “You don’t become a champion football team by doing things right sometimes, you become a champion by doing things right all the time.” Well, the same is true in life. It’s the person who gives, saves, and invests consistently, week after week, year after year, who ends up financially secure. Not the person who tithes once in a while, spends recklessly, is always looking for that hot stock, and saves occasionally.
DO ANGELS DO OUR BIDDING?
Let me be clear. I’m not talking about some of the new age thinking on angels that’s going around now. There are some unbelievers who call themselves “spiritual” who claim angels are here to do our bidding, whatever it is. They are not serving the Lord Jesus Christ but their own selfish ambitions. They claim you can tell angels to do whatever you want. That’s not what I’m talking about. And I don’t mean you can just tell angels to hold a parking space for you or tell them to have your company give you a promotion. I’m talking about speaking and praying Psalm 91 protection over you and your family when you’re about to get on a plane and things like that. Speak things like that and they will get to work. Most of the time we don’t even see their protection in our lives. I’m sure if you thought about it, you could look back on your life (even before you knew the Lord) and see some blessings, favor, and/or protection where it HAD to be divine intervention. You just didn’t know it at the time. Angels at work.
So remember, the angels are listening all the time. So give them something to work with. If all you talk about is how bad things are, you tie their hands. That wouldn’t be so bad except the devil is also listening to you. So when you talk of things against God’s Word, you give the devil permission to operate in your life. But that’s for another blog. So remember, speak what you want, based on God’s Word and His Will for your life, and give the angels something to work with. Selah.
